Food insecurity and housing issues are not new issues in Indigenous communities. In fact, they have experienced these issues at higher rates than the average non-Indigenous Canadian. Indigenous people have experienced these challenges as a direct result of colonialism. It is important to note that any solutions need to be found by Indigenous people, for Indigenous people.
How to use this resource:
To inform of the challenges within Indigenous communities and to learn about how these challenges have been persistent issues even before COVID-19.
To advocate for equitable food security, infrastructure and clean drinking water.
To inform that policy changes and decision-making require Indigenous centred solutions.
