The Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC) made a statement on April 8, 2020 about the rise of racism since the emergence of COVID-19. The CHRC stated minority groups, more specifically people of Asian origin, have been targeted with “racist taunts, threats and intimidation in public and online, and physical violence.” Also, the CHRC stated racism and xenophobia contribute to misinformation. The CHRC stressed the importance of flattening the curve together in solidarity to ensure we are all safe.
How to use this resource:
- To clarify CHRC does not condone racism and to stress the importance of unity and inclusion during COVID-19.
- To advocate for the human rights of all people who are targeted based on their skin colour.
- To provide a resource on how to file a complaint if someone experienced discrimination.
