Community Response

Big Brothers Big Sisters

During this time, Big Brothers Big Sisters has remained committed to maintaining and supporting the vital mentoring relationships in order to fight the social isolation of our most vulnerable youth. While we all practice physical distancing, it is important to protect against emotional distancing.

Social isolation can be an adverse child effect causing toxic stress which has dangerous, life-long impacts on children. Stable, caring relationships are essential for healthy development and are critical for buffering toxic stress. By having a Big Brother or Big Sister, in a child’s life can protect children’s wellbeing. By having a consistent person that a child can trust to share how they feel, can significantly increase a child’s happiness.

People can learn about the benefits of mentoring and supports from BBBS on our website and social media accounts. Currently, our office is closed until further notice.
